Get started: set up Securify on your Shopify store
In about five minutes, Securify can start checking every visit to your store against the rules you choose: countries, IP addresses, VPNs and bots. This guide walks you through the setup inside Shopify, step by step.
Before you start
- Securify runs on your Online Store through a theme app embed, so you need an Online Store theme.
- You need permission to install apps and edit themes in your Shopify admin.
Step 1: Install Securify
- Open Securify on the Shopify App Store and click Install.
- Review the permissions and approve them.
- Securify opens inside your Shopify admin. You can always find it again under Apps → Securify.
Step 2: Choose what to block
The first screen asks Which countries do you want to block?
- Search for the countries you don't sell to and add them. Country rules are unlimited on every plan.
- Click Finish setup (free) to start on the Free plan, or click Protect my store to add more protection.
- If you chose Protect my store, pick everything you want to stop on the What are you trying to stop? screen: bots, VPNs and proxies, fake ad traffic, scrapers, fake customers or risky orders. Securify shows the plan that covers your choices. Paid plans start with a free trial.
Step 3: Turn on the Securify app embed (required)
Securify checks visitors through a theme app embed. Until the embed is on, visitors are not checked and your rules are not enforced.
- In Securify, click Open theme editor in the Turn on the Securify app embed window, or click Enable next to the App embed disabled label at the top of any page.
- In the theme editor, open App embeds in the left sidebar.
- Switch on Easy Block IP & Country.
- Click Save.
- Go back to Securify. The label at the top of the page now reads App embed enabled.
Tip: the embed is saved per theme. If you publish a different theme later, switch the embed on in that theme too.
Step 4: Check that protection is working
- Open your store in a new browser window.
- In Securify, open Visitor Logs. Within a minute your visit appears there with the decision Securify made for it.
Step 5: Fine-tune your rules
Changes on the Settings page take effect when you click Save in the bar at the top of the page.
- Block Countries: add or remove countries at any time.
- Block IPs: block a single IP address, add trusted addresses to the Allow List, or import a list. Blocking whole IP ranges needs a paid plan.
- Settings → Protection Settings:
- Enable App Mode is the main switch. Turn it off to pause all protection without uninstalling.
- Block VPN Users: Pro plan and above.
- Block Bot Traffic (datacenter traffic) and Manage Good Bots (keep search engines and other helpful bots): Advanced plan and above.
- Advanced Bot Blocking: Growth plan.
- Settings → Custom Block Message: the message blocked visitors see. Pro plan and above.
- Settings → Location Verification Appeal: offer blocked shoppers a way to confirm their real location from the block page.
- Settings → Notifications: a daily email summary of what Securify blocked.
- Content Protection: turn off right-click, keyboard shortcuts, text selection and developer tools on your storefront. All plans.
- Block Emails: block risky customer email addresses, including at checkout. Growth plan. To block at checkout, also open Shopify Settings → Checkout → Checkout rules and set Email Validation to Active.
What your shoppers see
- Visitors who match your rules see a block page instead of your store.
- Everyone else shops as usual.
- Securify is designed so that if it can't be reached, your store stays open to shoppers. Checks resume on their own when the connection is back.
Pause or uninstall
- Pause: in Securify, go to Settings, turn off Enable App Mode and click Save in the bar at the top of the page. Your rules are kept. See Temporarily disable Securify.
- Uninstall: in your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps, open Securify and choose Uninstall. Shopify removes the app embed and Securify stops checking visitors. 48 hours later Shopify asks us to erase your store's data, and we erase it as described in our Privacy Policy.
